Indiana County’s seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate went down slightly in March.
The PA Department of Labor and Industry said that March’s unemployment rate was 7.3 percent, down a tenth of a percentage point from February. In March of last year, it was at 6.7 percent, before the Covid-19 pandemic’s effects were felt in full force.
Indiana County’s unemployment percentage is on par with state levels. The statewide unemployment rate also went down a tenth of a percentage point to 7.3 percent. The national rate went down two-tenths to 6.0 percent.
Compared to the surrounding counties, Indiana was in the middle of the pack. Jefferson and Westmoreland County tied for the lowest in the region at 7.1 percent. Clearfield County’s rate for March was 7.2 percent. Cambria County had a 7.6 percent unemployment rate and Armstrong County’s rate was the highest at 7.7 percent.
The lowest county unemployment rate was Montour at 4.6 percent, while the highest was Philadelphia at 10.8 percent.
