The Armstrong, Indiana and Clarion Drug and Alcohol Commission along with the Indiana County Sherriff’s office, Diamond Drug of Indiana and Rite Aid of Blairsville held drug takeback day events at the two pharmacies. People could bring their unused, unwanted or expired prescription or over-the-counter medicine to those sites for disposal. This year, the drug takeback effort also included vaping materials.
Indiana County Sheriff Bob Fyock said that they collected 180 pounds of drugs and filled seven boxes, which is the most they have ever collected in the history of the drug takeback day event, which goes back over a decade.
Sheriff Fyock said he was surprised by the result.
Local law enforcement and members of the county’s Drug Task Force were on hand to make sure the drugs were properly disposed of.
