The Penguins beat the Devils, 4-2, Saturday and are in sole possession of second place in the NHL East, a point behind the Capitals and two points ahead of the Islanders. The Penguins temporarily held first place until the Caps beat the Islanders last night to take it back. Washington has 66 points to the Penguins’ 65.
Fourth-place Boston visits Pittsburgh today for a 3:00 faceoff, as the Penguins continue a grueling stretch of five games in eight days. They will play Boston again on Tuesday.
The status of center Teddy Blueger is unknown heading into today’s game as he missed a portion of the third period yesterday with an apparent injury.
