After being held to one hit on Friday, the Pirates jumped on Twins’ starter Michael Pineda and collected six runs off seven hits to win, 6-2.
Michael Perez and Kevin Newman would add insurance in the fifth inning with back-to-back home runs. Perez would add a double and a single with the home run to complete a 3-for-3 line at the plate. Newman would add two RBIs.
Trevor Cahill posted his best performance of the season after holding Minnesota to a pair of hits and one run over six innings. After a rough second inning, he would go on to retire 13 consecutive hitters faced.
Both teams wrap up the series tomorrow afternoon in Minnesota. Matt Shoemaker gets the start for the Twins. No starter has been announced yet for the Pirates.
