On the first day of the PSAC swimming championships yesterday, IUP freshman Luke Mikesell won the 1,000-yard freestyle. Mikesell swam a season-best time of 9:31.99, nearly 15 seconds faster than second-place swimmer Jacob Greenwood of Shippensburg. He also finished second in the 200 freestyle and was part of the 400 medley relay team that finished fourth.
IUP is fourth heading into Day Two. Because of the pandemic, all events are finals with no preliminary heats, and the format has the men’s teams in the pool for the first two days of the championship and the women’s teams for the next two.
The action is taking place at the Graham Aquatic Center in York.
