HAYES LEAVES ALTERNATE SITE:
Third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes reportedly left the Pirates’ alternate site today after re-injuring his left wrist, according to Director of Sports Medicine Todd Tomczyk.
The news broke shortly before 11 a.m. by MLB.com’s Jake Crouse, and he adds that Hayes re-injured his wrist after “taking some swings” in Detroit. He is on his way back to Pittsburgh to be re-examined by a specialist.
There is no word on how long Hayes will remain out for.
Starter Chad Kuhl was also placed on the injured list earlier today with a right shoulder injury. Geoff Hartlieb has been recalled to take his place.
T. FRAZIER RECALLED, FOWLER DFA’D:
Among the aforementioned roster moves, the Pirates designated outfielder Dustin Fowler for assignment. Fowler struggled this season with a .171 batting average with 20 strikeouts in 18 games played.
In return, Todd Frazier has been added to the 40-man roster and recalled to the Pirates.
Frazier, 35, played in 12 Spring Training games with the Bucs where he hit .250 with 3 home runs in 12 games. He was initially released by Pittsburgh before the start of the regular season, but rejoined the club on a minor league deal within the first few days of the season.
He reportedly had an opt-out deadline coming up if he hadn’t made the MLB roster.
