When the Pirates play the Tigers today, it will be the start of their third game in less than 24 hours after a day/night doubleheader split yesterday in Detroit.

Manager Derek Shelton says first-game starter Tyler Anderson showed again yesterday why he is a tough matchup for any lineup.
Shelton is a big fan of closer Richard Rodriguez, who he says is willing to pitch anytime, for any number of innings, to help his team.
Rodriguez earned his second save yesterday. In seven appearances this season, he’s pitched 7-and-a-third innings, giving up one hit and no runs, while striking out seven and walking only one.

BUCS DFA ALFORD, CLAIM TOM FROM A’S:
The Pirates made some roster moves yesterday, designating outfielder Anthony Alford for assignment, calling up infielder Rodolfo Castro from the alternate training team, and claiming outfielder Ka’ai Tom off waivers from Oakland.
He was a Rule 5 acquisition by the A’s who was 1-for-16 this season. As a Rule 5 player, he must remain on the Pirates’ roster for the entire season or be offered back to his original team, the Cleveland Indians.
