The Board of Governors of the State System of Higher Education has scheduled a public meeting next week to consider its university integrations plans, in order to trigger a 60-day public comment period.
Six of the 14 State System schools would be consolidated into two single entities. In the west, Clarion, California, and Edinboro would merge; in the east, Lock Haven, Mansfield, and Bloomsburg would be joined together.
While the integration would merge the operations of the schools, the individual name of each university would appear on the degree a student earns, and the plan also calls for the sports teams from each university to continue to operate under each school’s banner. That aspect of the plan is still awaiting NCAA approval.
At the meeting next week, the board will review the plan, which calls for one leadership team to guide the merged schools with one budget and one curriculum. Each of the schools would have a campus leader, and each of the two newly-created entities would have a new name, which has not been announced yet but could be next week.
The virtual meeting is on Wednesday, April 28th at 8:30 AM. It will be webcast at www.passhe.edu and will be recorded for later viewing.
