A Greensburg man will appear in court today for a non-jury trial related to an incident involving a Molotov cocktail last year.
Senior Judge William Martin will hear the case of 21-year-old Derrick John Weber, who is charged with attempted arson with danger of death or bodily injury, reckless endangerment and criminal mischief in connection with the incident on May 30th last year.
State police were called out shortly after 8:00 that morning to a home in the 8000 block of Route 217 North in Burrell Township. A Blairsville man had reported that earlier that morning, he heard a loud crack outside and saw a part of his front yard on fire. After daylight, he found damage to the vinyl siding of his home, a smashed bottle in his yard and an unbroken bottle on the sidewalk with a red rag wrapped around the bottle’s neck. The bottle was filled with gasoline.
Weber was found at his home in Greensburg and he was taken into custody at that time.
Since his arrest, Weber was free after posting $25,000 bail. His trial is scheduled to begin this afternoon at 1:15 PM.
