Indiana County’s firefighters are welcoming rain today in the hope that it will slow down the rash of brush fires that has struck the area.
Three more were reported Saturday, including an eight-alarm blaze in Canoe Township, in northern Indiana County. The first summons to the area along Dombs Hill Road came at 12:24 PM for the Rossiter, Glen Campbell, and Perry Township and Punxsutawney Central companies (Jefferson County). Marion Center and Big Run firefighters were dispatched 20 minutes later, and Creekside and Commodore were sent soon afterward. A couple of hours after that, Marion Center reported being called to a brush fire along Washington Road and Tanoma Road in Rayne Township (that fire did not make it onto the Indiana County 911 website).
At about 4 PM, Armagh/East Wheatfield township firefighters were called to a brush fire along West Philadelphia Street Extension, just outside of Armagh.
Other 911 reports from Saturday include an accident along the Patchin Highway in Cambria County, to which Glen Campbell and Cherry Tree firefighters responded; Indiana firefighters were dispatched to an accident at 6:43 PM on Route 422 West in White Township; Bolivar firefighters were called for utility lines down on Route 259 in West Wheatfield Township at 7:08 PM; and Indiana firefighters answered a carbon monoxide alarm along Route 119 North in White Township just after midnight this morning.
