The Crimson Hawks swept UPJ in both games on Saturday to win the series 3-1.
GAME ONE: IUP – 5, UPJ – 2
Haleigh Zimmerman gave IUP the lead in the second inning with a sacrifice fly, and Renee Wall would add two insurance runs in the fourth and sixth innings to seal the game one win. Kaitlyn Beers capped off the Crimson Hawks’ scoring in the sixth with a solo home run.
Hope Jones notched her second complete game this season after holding the Mountain Cats to two runs and four hits. She would strike out seven batters.
GAME TWO: IUP – 5, UPJ – 4
Kaitlyn Beers continued her power surge in game two as she hit two home runs to help IUP capture a win in the series finale.
Haleigh Zimmerman would start game two off similar to game one – with a sacrifice fly to give the Crimson Hawks a 1-0 lead. Beers would drive in two with her first home run of the game in the third inning. Ashley Renzi would drive in one on a sacrifice fly in the fifth, and Beers would hit her second home run of the game in the seventh. With her three home runs on Saturday, Beers eclipses 10 on the season, placing her third in the PSAC in that category.
Amanda Fischer picked up her sixth win of the season after holding UPJ scoreless throughout the final four innings.
IUP will take a 13-9 record into Edinboro on Friday as they start a four-game series with the Fighting Scots.
