The Crimson Hawks snapped their 17-game losing streak after splitting Saturday’s doubleheader with UPJ.
GAME ONE: IUP – 11, UPJ – 2
Nick Hess drove in five runs after hitting a three-run home run in the first inning and doubling home two runs in the second to help IUP win game one, 11-2.
Chris Eisel drove in a pair in the fourth after hitting a two-run home run – his fourth this season. Harrison Pontoli tripled in a run in the fifth, and Billy Perroz and Ty Diehl drove in the final two in the sixth.
Ben Hudock would earn the win on the mound after shutting out the Mountain Cats through 4.2 innings. He would strike out four hitters and only allowed two hits.
GAME TWO: UPJ – 3, IUP – 1
Hess would open the scoring for the second straight game on an RBI double to left, but the Mountain Cats posted a run in each of the final three innings to split Saturday’s doubleheader, 3-1.
He and Austin Mueller would go 1-for-3 in the game, while Chayse McCombie struck out three over 4 innings in his third appearance of the season.
IUP is 2-18 on the season and they return to Dougherty Field on Friday to start a four-game series with Mercyhurst.
