A friend of a man who lost his home in a fire in Derry Township earlier this week has started an online fundraiser to help him get back on his feet.
One firefighter was injured in the fire on April 7th, and Jeremiah Thomas and six of his children were displaced because of the fire at their home on Chestnut Street. The fire is believed to have started in the back of the house and spread quickly through the home. The fire also caused damage to the cars in the driveway and the heat damaged a neighboring house. The home is believed to be a total loss. Fire officials say the fire was electrical in nature. Blairsville fire crews were called in to help crews in Derry Township with the fire.
A friend of Thomas has set up a GoFundMe page to raise money to help Thomas out, and so far it has been very successful. The fundraiser has raised $17,887 towards a goal of $20,000. If you wish to donate to this fundraiser.
