Radim Zohorna tallied his first multi-point game on Thursday as he helped the Penguins beat the New York Rangers, 5-2.
Zohorna kicked off the night’s scoring with a goal in the first period. He would add an assist in the second period after setting up Evan Rodrigues for an insurance goal. Kris Letang, Jason Zucker and Mark Jankowski also added goals throughout the night to pad the Penguins’ lead. The Penguins’ defensive unit played a pivotal role in the win, forcing the Rangers to give the puck up 12 times in the game.
After the game, coach Mike Sullivan said Zohorna’s ceiling is still forming and that he has plenty of potential with the Penguins.
Sullivan also commended the team’s defensive turnaround from Tuesday night’s loss.
Kris Letang also commented on the team’s defensive efforts. He said that speed was one factor in preventing a back-and-forth contest.
The win puts the Penguins within two points of the Washington Capitals in the East. They return to action on Friday as they open a two-game series with the New Jersey Devils. Airtime on U92.5 FM and the U92 Sports Channel is 6 p.m. with puck drop at 7 p.m.
