In the long-awaited return to PNC Park, the Pirates fell to the Chicago Cubs, 4-2, on Thursday.
The Bucs had a 2-1 lead after five innings, but Javier Baez would give the Cubs the lead in the sixth after hitting a two-run home run off Tyler Anderson. Anthony Rizzo would add an insurance run in the top of the eighth with a solo home run off Sam Howard. Cubs’ reliever Dan Winkler would walk the bases loaded in the bottom half, but Craig Kimbrel would end the Pirates’ chances for a comeback after recording a five-out save.
Adam Frazier and Gregory Polanco recorded two hits each, while Dustin Fowler tallied an RBI on a sacrifice fly.
The loss moves the Pirates to 1-6 and extends their losing streak to six games. They will look to snap it against the Cubs on Saturday at 6:35 p.m. You can hear all the action beginning at 6:10 p.m. on WCCS AM 1160 and 101.1 FM.
