It was a night to forget for Trevor Cahill, who made his debut for the Pirates on Tuesday, as he gave up seven earned runs against the Cincinnati Reds in a 14-1 loss.
Cahill found trouble early in the game. Tyler Naquin led off the game with a solo home run to right field, and it would be followed by a four-run second inning. After a scoreless third, the Reds would add four runs in the fourth. He also would commit a fielding error, overthrowing first base on a pick-off attempt.
Phillip Evans provided the only run for the Pirates in the seventh with a solo home run. He was also called to pitch in relief in the eighth inning, when he needed only five pitches to retire the side.
The loss gives the Bucs their fourth consecutive loss and they’re now 1-4 on the season. They return to Great American Ballpark to wrap up the series with the Reds on Wednesday with first pitch scheduled for 12:35 p.m. and you can hear all the action starting at 12:10 p.m. on WCCS AM 1160 and 101.1 FM.
