In PSAC baseball action, California (Pa.) swept Saturday’s doubleheader against IUP giving them the series sweep.
Game One: Cal U – 11, IUP – 1
The Vulcans combined for 10 runs in the first three innings and limited IUP to one run on five hits in game one. Caden DeCroo put the Crimson Hawks in the scoring column after driving in Chris Eisel on a sacrifice fly in the fifth. Joe Dolansky provided two shutout innings of relief for IUP in the sixth and seventh frames.
Nick Hess would also find success on offense after going 2-for-4 at the plate.
Game Two: Cal U – 10, IUP – 4
IUP would out-hit the Vulcans in the series finale, but errors prevented the Crimson Hawks from upending the Vulcans as they fell, 10-4.
The Crimson Hawks came within two runs of the Vulcans in the fourth, after Colin Williams drove in a run on a double and Ty Diehl brought Williams home on a single to left. Austin Vigliotti would add two more in the seventh after hitting his first career home run to left field.
Starting pitcher Nick Kuhn gave up two earned runs and three hits in five innings on the mound while collecting five strikeouts.
IUP moves to 1-15 on the season and will return to Owen Dougherty Field on Tuesday as they take on the Mount Aloysius Mounties in non-conference play.
