After taking a 1-0 lead into the first intermission, the Penguins’ gave up five goals in the second period and would eventually fall to the Boston Bruins, 7-5, on Saturday.
Mark Jankowski gave the Pens their first period lead, however five goals for Boston came in the second period to give them a 5-3 lead heading into the third. Cody Ceci and Sidney Crosby brought Pittsburgh within one point, however Brad Marchand iced the game in the closing minutes of the third, giving him his third goal on the afternoon and giving the Bruins the win.
As a team, the Penguins gave the puck up 12 times in the game and lost 34 faceoffs.
After the game, coach Mike Sullivan said the Penguins need to do a better job at paying attention to details.
He said that focusing on these details will allow the Penguins to play better on both sides of the puck.
The Penguins still hold a seven point lead over Boston in the eastern division, and they look to rebound on Tuesday as they begin a two-game series with the New York Rangers.
