Today is the last day of the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission’s ban on service shut-offs during the Covid-19 pandemic, and utility companies throughout the state are urging those at risk for having their service cut off to call them immediately.
The moratorium protected close to 900,000 customers in Pennsylvania who were behind in their bills due to the economic impact of Covid-19, but with the moratorium coming to an end, now is the time to reach out to the utility companies for assistance. Public Utility Commission spokesman Nils Hagen-Fredericksen said that utility companies have been reporting to the PUC on the number of Pennsylvanians behind on their bills.
Financial assistance is available through LIHEAP and other programs, but the best thing to do is to reach out to utility companies to see what assistance is available to you.
