In high school baseball action on Tuesday, United, West Shamokin and Penns Manor recorded wins in Heritage Conference play, while the Indiana Little Indians won their second straight contest at home.
BASEBALL
Indiana 7, Latrobe 6
The Little Indians trailed 6-3 through five-and-a-half innings, but a three-run bottom of the sixth propelled them to a 7-6 win.
Freshman Ben Ryan tallied the win after throwing two scoreless innings in relief, while also plating two RBIs offensively. Sophomore Steven Budash collected three RBIs off two hits and Brandon Kanick stole two bases.
Indiana moves to 2-0 and will play at home next Tuesday against Freeport.
United 10, Homer-Center 0
Ben Tomb tossed five no-hit innings while striking out 12 as the United Lions shut-out Homer-Center, 10-0, on Tuesday. The Lions offense was led by Bradley Felix, Jon Henry and Joe Marino, as Henry and Marino drove in two runs while Felix collected a pair of hits.
Hunter Cameron closed out the game in relief and allowed just one hit.
West Shamokin 11, Saltsburg 1
Ezick Olinger and Trevor Smulik combined for three hits and four RBIs as the West Shamokin Wolves opened their season with a win over the Saltsburg Trojans. Olinger also tossed a gem on the mound, tallying eight strikeouts in five innings pitched. Smulik came on in relief in the sixth where he struck out two and allowed just one hit.
Bo Swartz also contributed to the Wolves’ offense, going 2-4 at the plate with an RBI and three runs scored.
Penns Manor 13, Purchase Line 1
Penns Manor scored three runs in each of the first three innings and sealed the game in the fifth with a four-run frame. Brandon Dunmire collected the win after starting in the game, while Kayden Detweiler got his first relief appearance of the year.
Mason Gearhart collected two hits, while Andrew Beer and Jayce Brooks each stole a base for the Dragons.
