Earlier today, representatives from the coal-fired power industry and the clean energy industry met for a webinar to discuss the effects of energy policy, consumer demand and technology on the region’s workforce.
The webinar was hosted by the Indiana County Sustainable Economic Development Task Force. One of the topics brought up was the action by Governor Wolf concerning the state’s entry in to the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, which is seen as a threat to Indiana County’s Coal-fired power plants. Eric Baker of Keystone Generating Facility in Shelocta and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers said that the state joining RGGI would be detrimental as it would force Pennsylvania to rely on others for electricity as demand for energy is expected to increase.
Sharon Pillar-Grace of Environmental Entrepreneurs said that clean power sources like solar and wind power are the wave of the future and will eventually replace the coal-fired plant.
