GOLF:
Sophomore Shaun Fedor shot a 3-over par to help IUP place third at The Trojan tournament hosted by the University of Mount Olive on Tuesday. As a team, the Crimson Hawks shot a 7-over par in the second round of the two-day tournament, and they finished with a 33-over par, just two strokes behind second-place Catawba (895). Host Mount Olive won the tournament after finished 16-under par.
Juniors Jack Buccigross and Jeremy Eckenrode tied for 18th place as both shot 11-over par and junior Nicholas Ward shot a 12-over, putting him tied for 20th. Other notable performances were freshman Luke Lestini, who finished in 27th place with 15-over, and sophomore Richie Kline who came in 37th.
IUP travels to West Chester next Monday and Tuesday to play in the Cottrell Invitational, the final tournament before the PSAC Championships.
TENNIS:
Idoia Huerton and Katy Graydon helped the Crimson Hawks win their third consecutive match by beating Clarion, 6-1, on Tuesday.
Huerton won in singles play, winning her sets by scores of 6-1 and 6-0, while also winning in doubles play alongside Lydia Vlachou by the score of 6-0. Graydon, who was nominated earlier this week as the PSAC Athlete of the Week, won both of her singles sets with 6-1 scores and her doubles set alongside Laura Dunarova by the score of 6-1.
Vlachou and Dunarova also won in singles competition, both posting 6-0 wins. IUP would also gain three wins by default.
IUP returns to Maple Street Courts on Saturday to take on West Virginia State in non-conference action.
