During his virtual public forum for the IUP community earlier today, the Chancellor of the State System of Higher Education talked about some of the comments made during a recent Senate budget hearing.
Those comments were made two weeks ago during an exchange between Chancellor Dan Greenstein and Senator Joe Pittman, saying that if the financial problems of the state system were not fixed, he would come back to the PASSHE board and recommend legislation to dissolve the system. Greenstein said that those comments were taken out of context, but said that it was important to take action as the State System continues to be in financial trouble.
He also talked about an alternate idea that he felt was bad, and that was closing just some of the universities.
Other topics covered by the chancellor during his virtual visit to IUP included progress being made to make the state system more diverse and welcoming, and IUP’s per-credit tuition rates.
