The Steelers are reportedly working on restructuring the contract of tight end Erik Ebron to save about $3.9 million in salary cap space.
Yesterday, they announced the signing of linebacker Robert Spillane to an exclusive rights one-year free agent contract worth the NFL minimum $850,000. Barring a free agent signing or a draft choice, Spillane is the front-runner to replace Vince Williams at inside linebacker. The team also signed reserve outside linebacker Cassius Marsh to a one-year deal, and officially announced the signing of free agent offensive lineman Joe Haeg and special teamer/safety Miles Killebrew.
The Steelers have an app called the “Steelers Nation Unite Huddle” which allows fans to have access to team personnel, past and present. This afternoon at 4 o’clock, owner Art Rooney II will be answering questions. You can download the app at steelers.com.
Rooney can expect to get plenty of questions about some of the team’s offseason moves, which have left fans and analysts puzzled. The re-signing of Ben Roethlisberger and JuJu Smith-Schuster, the loss of free agents such as Bud Dupree and Mike Hilton, and the decision to terminate the contract of starting cornerback Steven Nelson are issues that could come up.
