Adam Frazier’s hot bat provided the only run of the game and Pirates pitchers shut down the Minnesota Twins yesterday in the Grapefruit League.
Frazier was 2-for-3 with a home run in the 6th inning as the Bucs beat the Twins, 1-0. Starter Chase De Jong gave up just one hit and struck out two in 3-and-two-thirds innings, leaving because of his pitch count. David Bednar finished the 4th, and Miguel Yajure, Michael Feliz, Kyle Crick, Sam Howard, and Roansy Contreras completed the shutout, each pitching one inning and combining to give up only two more hits and strike out nine. Contreras, who was acquired in the Jameson Taillon trade with the Yankees, walked the leadoff batter in the 9th but then struck out three in a row.
The Bucs take on the Braves today, with JT Brubaker getting the start, and Clay Holmes, Chasen Shreve, Nick Mears, and Brandon Ogle also scheduled to pitch.
The Pirates yesterday assigned pitcher James Marvel to their minor league camp.
The team has not provided any new information on pitcher Steven Brault, who left Friday’s game with what was described as tightness in the latissimus muscle on his left side.
