Softball wins takes series over Mercyhurst:
After dropping the first game on Saturday, 3-2, to the Lakers, IUP bounced back by taking the remaining three games of the weekend slate to move to 7-4 on the season.
IUP trailed 5-0 in Sunday’s first game, but rallied back with an 8-run fifth inning to win 12-8. Rachel Rodriguez and Amanda Fischer had two hits each, while Sara Russell drove in three runs in her only at-bat.
In game two, IUP walked off winners by a score of 6-5, after a throwing error by the Lakers allowed Kaitlyn Beers to score from third. Beers went 3-3 in the game while driving in three RBIs. Anna Ferrucci and Renee Wall also collected two hits in the series finale.
IUP is now 7-4 on the season and returns to action on Friday to face Seton Hill.
Baseball drops Sunday matchup against Cal U, 6-5:
IUP faced a 5-run deficit in the fifth inning, but three hits, including a three-run home run by Drew Weglarz, evened up the game heading into the sixth. Cal U’s Aaron Privinsky would break the tie in the sixth with a go-ahead RBI triple that gave them the lead and the series win.
Weglarz and Nick Hess would each mount two hits, while Chris Eisel tallied a stolen base.
IUP is now on a 7-game losing streak and the Crimson Hawks return to action on Friday with a two-game road trip to Seton Hill.
