Markus Cestra went two-for-two at the plate as IUP fell to California (Pa.), 18-3, Saturday afternoon.
IUP matched Cal U in hits on the afternoon with 11, but the Vulcans collected 14 runs in the fifth and sixth innings to put the game away early. They also forced IUP to commit three errors on defense in the game.
Along with his strong performance at the plate, Cestra posted two runs while Colin Williams drove in the lone RBI for the Crimson Hawks in the bottom of the fifth. Jake Decker allowed just three hits and struck out six batters over 3.2 innings of relief.
Both teams travel to California to complete the home-and-home series with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
