UPDATE: Penelec has moved up the power restoration time to 11:30 AM.
WHAT WAS PREVIOUSLY REPORTED
More than 7,000 Penelec customers and more than 3,800 members of REA Energy are without power this morning.
The outage started around 6:30 this morning. Officials with First Energy, Penelec’s parent company, confirmed that there was a problem with a major transmission line in the area between Indiana and Shelocta, which caused problems at the Shelocta substation, and spread to other areas.
Drivers are reminded that if a traffic light is out, by law you are required to treat it as a four-way stop.
As of 7 AM, 7,383 Penelec customers are without power with most of the outages in Homer City, Center Township and White Township.
REA Energy said 3,806 members are without power, mainly in the same areas.
Power is expected to be restored by 10:00 this morning, but that could change as the investigation into the outage continues.
