IUP has announced it is planning to hold in-person commencement exercises on the weekend of May 7th and 8th.
Plans are to hold ceremonies for doctoral and master’s degree ceremonies to be held on Friday, May 7th and undergraduate degrees will be conferred the following day. The ceremonies are being planned according to the current CDC guidelines regarding gathering limits and the limits for indoor events put in place by Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf, which currently allow for 25 percent capacity for indoor events. That puts attendance at the KCAC at about 1,200 people.
Because of those limits, only two tickets will be offered to each graduate for in-person attendees. Others will be able to watch a online stream of the ceremonies. However, conditions could change between now and graduation weekend, and IUP will notify all students of any changes to plans as soon as they are made.
IUP is still working on plans to honor graduates who did not get to have an in-person ceremony in the spring and fall semesters of last year.
