LACROSSE: SETON HILL – 12, IUP – 11
Despite the Crimson Hawks outscoring Seton Hill in the second period, 6-5, IUP fell to the Griffins at Miller Stadium on Wednesday by the score of 12-11. IUP nodded up the game at 11 with 5:13 left to play, but Seton Hill’s Kristi Kada stormed down the field within a minute to give her team the go-ahead goal.
Kayte Zeiler scored two key goals for the Crimson Hawks in the second period that not only drew IUP closer to Seton Hill, but they also helped her tie for the team lead in goals on the day with Chantal Jimenez. Both would finish the game with three goals each. Jordan Kulp and Sarah Reustle, who were both recognized earlier this week by the PSAC as Athlete and Defender of the Week, combined for three goals and three assists.
The loss brings IUP to 1-2 on the season and they return to Miller Stadium on Saturday to face Lock Haven.
SWIMMING: NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS GET UNDER”WAVE” IN ALABAMA
Five IUP swimmers were set to compete in the opening day of the NCAA Championships, but only one was able to compete. The tournament was suspended during the day due to inclement weather which prevented several races from occurring.
Despite this, IUP placed in three events:
- Freshman Iliana Oikonomou placed 20th in the 50 freestyle with a preliminary time of 23.72.
- As a group, IUP would place in the women’s 200-yard freestyle (8th) and the 200-yard medley relay (9th). No times were reported for IUP in those events.
The postponed events from Wednesday are not rescheduled as of yet and day two begins tomorrow at 10 a.m.
