In federal court yesterday, a Florida man pleaded guilty to a single count of conspiracy to distribute marijuana on college campuses in western Pennsylvania, including at IUP.
32-year-old Ryan Hendrix of Lighthouse Point, Florida entered his plea before U.S. District Court Judge David S. Cercone.
Hendrix was charged after a multi-year investigation of marijuana trafficking. From 2012 to 2017, Hendrix and his co-conspirators arranged for marijuana to be shipped from the West Coast to the Pittsburgh Area through the U.S. Postal Service. His co-conspirators would then distribute the pot primarily to college campuses.
The news release from U.S. Attorney Scott Brady specifically mentions IUP. Judge Cercone scheduled sentencing for July 22nd. Hendrix could get as much as five years in prison and a fine of $250,000.
Brady credited the Indiana Borough Police, along with the Drug Enforcement Administration, the IRS Criminal Investigation unit, and Pittsburgh Police. The case was investigated under the banner of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force.
