Evgeni Malkin collected his 1,100th career goal while helping the Penguins extend their winning streak to six games after defeating the Boston Bruins, 4-1, on Monday.
Boston broke out with a 1-0 lead on a power play goal in the first period, but two goals by Evan Rodrigues and Sidney Crosby gave the Pens the lead heading into the intermission. Malkin reached his milestone off a power play goal in the second, and Jake Guentzel added an insurance goal in the third. That goal gives Guentzel his fourth score in as many games.
Tristan Jarry had a busy game in the net, as he saved 42 of 43 shots.
Jarry said after the game that the shots against him created a rhythm that helped make his job easier.
Coach Mike Sullivan credited Jarry for his prolific night but emphasized that, while the defense fought hard, they need to limit the number of shots allowed.
When asked about the power play success as of late, Sullivan said that the Pens’ efficiency stemmed from reacting quickly and covering all areas on the ice.
The win puts the Penguins five points ahead of Boston in the East division, and they have a chance to widen the gap as both teams return to PPG Paints Arena for the series finale Tuesday evening. You can listen to the game on U92.5 FM and the U92 Sports Channel beginning at 6 p.m.
