During their meeting last night, Indiana Borough Council discussed the possibility in the future of reapportioning the council’s seats among the borough’s four wards.
The discussion centered around the 2020 Census and the fact that reapportionment has not happened in several years, according to Councilman Sean McDaniel. He said that the conversation on this topic actually started last year.
McDaniel said that data has been collected, but they want to wait for the 2020 census results before suggestions are made on how to proceed. As of right now, each of Indiana Borough’s wards are represented by three members of council.
In other business, the board was advised by Chief Justin Schawl that police continue to get ready for any “IUPatty’s” Celebrations. Schawl continued to advise people that gatherings are still not healthy at this time due to Covid-19 still being prevalent. He said that social media chatter on unsanctioned celebrations has been light, much like last year when the pandemic started.
