A Derry man already serving time in the Indiana County Jail in a burglary case was arraigned yesterday in Westmoreland County for having drugs on him when he was being processed at the county prison last September.
31-year-old Jason Michael Thomas was being escorted to a cell on September 15th when he dropped a bundle of stamp bags, and then dropped another bundle as he stood in front of the cell. Lab tests showed the bags contained heroin and fentanyl.
Thomas was at the jail after being arrested for attacking a woman as they argued while she was driving the day before. He later pleaded guilty to harassment and drug possession in that case.
Thomas was on parole from Indiana County at the time of the incident with the woman. He’d been sentenced last February to nine months to one year in jail, plus probation, for criminal trespass. He was re-incarcerated after the September incident. He’ll have a preliminary hearing in the new Westmoreland County case on March 26th.
