The hot streak continues for the Penguins as they captured their fifth straight win by shutting out the Buffalo Sabres, 3-0, on Saturday.
Pittsburgh’s scoring began in the second period as Jake Guentzel found the back of the net on a Power Play opportunity. Sidney Crosby and Mark Jankowski would capitalize on an empty net in the last two minutes of the game, icing the Pens’ victory.
Casey DeSmith shined from within the net as he netted 20 saves in his first career shutout. After the game, DeSmith told reporters that while he was was proud of the shutout, the win is what mattered most to him.
Along with his Power Play goal, Guentzel added 8 shots-on-goal to his performance, continuing his dominant streak in the Penguins’ offensive gameplan. Head Coach Mike Sullivan credits his success to his “Hockey I.Q.”.
Along with the five-game win streak, the Pens have also won 11 of their last 14 matchups. Sullivan added that consistency is the main factor for Pittsburgh’s stretch of success.
The Pens still control third place in the NHL East division and they return to action to face the team below them in the Boston Bruins. Puck drop is 7 p.m.
