Gas price averages in Pennsylvania and Indiana County continue to increase.
Triple A reports that as of this morning, the state-wide average cost of a gallon of gas is now $3.02 a gallon, up two cents from the start of the week, and up six cents from last Friday. Last month, the gas price average was 23 cents lower, and the state-wide average was 49 cents lower last year than this year. The national average went up by six cents since the start of the week to $2.83 a gallon.
Increased demand combined with tightening gas supplies and the rising cost of crude oil are being blamed for the recent jump in gas prices.
Indiana County’s average is now $3.07 a gallon, an increase of three cents from the start of the week. Gas prices in Indiana Borough and White Township are between $3.05 and $3.09 a gallon. Gas prices remain at $3.09 a gallon in Homer City, Blairsville, Shelocta and Clymer.
Among the neighboring counties, Armstrong and Westmoreland County have the lowest averages with $3.05 a gallon. Clearfield County has a $3.06 a gallon average. Jefferson and Cambria Counties tie for the highest gas price average in the region at $3.09 a gallon.
