The Indiana School District Superintendent announced today that even though there are now six cases of Covid-19 at the Indiana Senior High School, the school will remain open for now.
The sixth case was reported this morning in a letter from Indiana School District Superintendent Michael Vuckovich posted to the district website. This marks six cases over the last two weeks. Contact tracing is underway and it could result in additional quarantining of students, but at this point, identified students were already placed in quarantine when they became ill, so no additional students were affected.
According to the board-approved health and safety plan, the administration would be required to close the high school for up to two weeks, but Vuckovich said that after discussion the situation with health officials at the school and state level and high school administrators, the decision was made to stay open for now. Vuckovich said the reasons why are:
- Five of the six active cases are connected to the same event, and all other students associated with that event are already in quarantine and have not been in the school since March 1st.
- The most recent case was not in school or at any school-related event during their contagious period due to the quarantining protocols.
The district will continue to closely monitor the situation and they will do everything they can to remain open while keeping everyone’s safety at the forefront.
