At Monday night’s meeting, the Purchase Line School Board approved the creation of a new STEAM Education room for the district’s elementary school.
The motion covers the creation and purchase of furniture, equipment, supplies and infrastructure that will not exceed $65,000. Superintendent Shawn Ford gave some details about what the elementary STEAM room would contain.
The board also approved a partnership with Inventionland for curriculum and platform support for the elementary STEAM room and other project-based learning initiatives for the next two school years at a cost of $22,000.
In other business, the board approved creating the Red Dragon Cyber Academy for the start of the 2021-2022 school year. Ford said that they were starting discussions on a cyber academy right before the Covid-19 pandemic hit.
The board also approved creating a district remote learning handbook, and a partnership with Waterfront Learning for curriculum and platform support for the cyber academy at a cost not to exceed $60,000.
