Pitt Coach Jeff Capel has been publicly reprimanded by the university for his post-game comments accusing ACC game officials of having a “double standard” imposed against the Panthers.
Capel said after Saturday’s 77-62 loss to Clemson that other teams can talk to his bench and nothing happens, but Pitt gets whistled for technical fouls if they yap at the other team’s bench. He also was unhappy that forward Justin Champagnie is not getting more foul shots because referees don’t call it when Champagnie is fouled. He had no free throws on Saturday against Clemson.
Pitt said Capel’s comments violated the ACC Sportsmanship Principle.
Pitt is the 12th seed in the ACC Tournament and will play No. 13 Miami in the opening round tomorrow at 2:00 (1:30 on WCCS). If the Panthers win, they will face Clemson in Round Two on Wednesday at 2:30.
