Penelec has announced residential customers will see a reduction in their electricity bills.
Penelec, along with affiliate companies West Penn Power, Penn Power and Met-Ed have filed new residential PTC-default rates with the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission for a three month period that started March 1st. The new default electric rates are 12% less than the current amounts, meaning the rate for Penelec Customers went down from approximately 5.7 cents per kilowatt hour to approximately 4.9 cents per kilowatt hour. For the average customer using 750 kilowatt hours, the bill will drop from $108.58 to $103.44.
The decrease comes after a 7% hike was approved for the last quarter. The four companies justified the rate increase as necessary investments in a long-term multi-million dollar distribution improvement project.
The new rates are pending approval by the PUC.
