The Pirates strung together six runs on eight hits to beat the Atlanta Braves, 6-1, in Bradenton on Thursday.
Third-basemen Ke’Bryan Hayes evened the scoring at 1-1 after hitting an RBI triple to right in the third. Erik Gonzalez would put the Pirates ahead in the forth with a two-run home run to right, while Gregory Polanco and Joe Hudson put up three more in the fifth and six innings.
Newly-acquired pitcher Tyler Anderson made his spring debut for Pittsburgh, fanning three Braves hitters in two innings and only allowing one run on three hits. Mars-native David Bednar pitched a perfect inning in the fourth, striking out the side in order.
Today’s win puts the Pirates’ record at 2-2-1 on the spring, and they are on the road tomorrow afternoon to face the Philadelphia Phillies. Airtime on WCCS AM 1160 and 101.1 FM is 1 p.m.
