A second student case of Covid-19 has been reported at the Indiana Senior High School as a member of the girls high school basketball team reported they tested positive for the virus.
In a statement from District Superintendent Michael Vuckovich, her case will count towards the high school’s rolling 14-day count, which now stands at two. Also as a precaution, the team has been told to quarantine. Its schedule won’t be altered as the team was eliminated from the WPIAL playoffs last night.
The girl had not played in last night’s game as she was out with an injury, but she was around the other team members. As a precaution, the district has notified teams that have played against Indiana High over the last five days, including last night’s opponent, Moon. A representative of the WPIAL said that there have been no changes to the schedules for playoff games as of yet.
This marks the second case reported at the Senior High in a 24-hour time span. Vuckovich said the county is in the “moderate” phase, so the district’s attestation to the Department of Health doesn’t apply but it put the case on the count to help ensure the highest levels of safety in the district, and based on that, it is safe for schools to remain open.
This new case is in addition to a case of a student last at school on February 23rd. Vuckovich said in that case, the student was properly masked and distanced, and was not around anyone within six feet for more than 15 minutes.
Indiana Area is the only district in the county listing active Covid-19 cases as of this morning.
