The U.S. Attorney for the Western Pennsylvania Region Scott Brady has announced he will resign his position.
Brady’s resignation goes into effect on Sunday. Brady was sworn in as the U.S. Attorney for our region on December 14th of 2017.

Some of the notable achievements in his career included his work in the fight against opioid abuse and addiction, which included the first physician prosecutions for opioid diversion. Under his leadership, the office prosecuted more medical professionals than any other U.S. Attorney’s office in the nation. As part of his fight against drugs, Brady also put large and violent drug trafficking high on his priority list, including organizations tied to Mexican drug cartels. This included the bust of a major drug ring trafficking crack cocaine and methamphetamine from Philadelphia to Indiana County in May of last year.
Also during Brady’s time in office, he focused on reducing crime rates and helping women break away from domestic and intimate partner violence, and also focused on cybercrime. In 2019, his office worked with officials in the countries of Georgia, Ukraine, Moldova, Germany and Bulgaria along with Eurojust in dismantling the GozNym cybercriminal network, the most significant malware syndicate in the world.
First Assistant U.S. Attorney Steve Kaufman will be sworn in as the acting U.S. Attorney on Sunday.
