TOP TWO HERITAGE GIRLS TEAMS UPENDED IN SATURDAY GAMES

In high school basketball action on Saturday, the two Heritage Conference teams at the top of the girls’ standings were both beaten.

West Shamokin fell to United, 57-27, while Homer Center was beaten by Blairsville, 63-47. Marion Center dropped Purchase Line, 46-44.

At United, Maizee Fry scored 21 points and Brooke Murlin added 14 for the Lions, as they handed West Shamokin its second loss of the season. With a four-point lead after the first quarter, United outpaced the Wolves, 19-2, in the second period. They then limited West Shamokin to seven points in each of the third and fourth quarters.

The same two teams will meet on Monday night at West Shamokin in a game you’ll hear on 92.5 FM U92.

At Blairsville, the Bobcats’ Lexi Risinger poured in five three-pointers on her way to 35 points. She opened the scoring with a three-pointer seconds after tipoff and the Bobcats never trailed. Risinger also grabbed 14 rebounds.
