The Penguins surrendered 42 shots on goal and were scrambling to keep up with the Capitals all night as they suffered their first home loss of the season (3-1). The loss snapped Pittsburgh’s home winning streak at five games.

Aston-Reese says the Penguins couldn’t get any momentum going because they gave the Capitals five power play opportunities, four in the second period alone.

Defenseman Marcus Pettersson returned to the Penguins’ lineup after missing nine games on the injured list.
