Last night, the Indiana County VFW Post 1989 officially named and swore in their slate of new officers, meaning that the post will continue to operate in Indiana.
Brian Jones was named the new post commander, with D.J. Strotman as the Senior Vice Commander and Jason Mangold as the Jr. Vice Commander. Ben Bush was named as the quartermaster of the post, which for other organizations would be the treasurer. Ed Baker was named the post chaplain and Kevin Lazor, Dana Henry and George Yurko were named trustees.
While the board was elected and sworn in last night, VFW Trustee Larry Wade says that the new officers will receive training before the reins are handed over to them completely.
Wade said he was happy to see some younger members stepping up into the leadership roles.
The VFW will continue to meet for now at the clubhouse on Indian Springs Road as the new property owner, Chris Evans of White Township, will continue to allow members to meet at their current headquarters, but Wade said the VFW is still looking for a new location for its headquarters.
As far as refunds for the Indian Springs Golf and Country club go, Wade said that is still under discussion and will be up to the new leadership.
