Major League Baseball announced yesterday that all 120 Minor League teams that were offered a Professional Development League (PDL) license has agreed to accept their invitations. This move correlates with the MLB’s realignment in hopes of creating more “geographical synergy” between teams and their affiliates.
In a press release from the MiLB, teams will now be more than 200 miles closer to their MLB organizations and this will allow fans to watch an organization’s players progress as they go from Single-A to the MLB.
This realignment also increases player salary from the prior-standing 38 percent to 72 percent for the upcoming season, as well as improved facility standards and amenities/working conditions for players and staff.
For the Pittsburgh Pirates, the realignment still has the Indianapolis Indians and Altoona Curve as its AAA and AA affiliates, however, the Greensboro Grasshoppers take the High-A role.
