Installation services were held Thursday for the new bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Greensburg.
The service, held yesterday at the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral in Greensburg, marked the official installation of the Most Reverend Larry James Kulick as bishop. Kulick is very familiar with the diocese. A native of Leechburg, he has served as a deacon at St. Thomas More University Parish in 1991 and 1992, and was parochial vicar at Blessed Sacrament from 1992 to 1995 and at Immaculate Conception Parish in Irwin from 1995 to 1997. After that, he was pastor at Church of the Good Shepherd in Kent and would follow that up with pastoral assignments at St. Joseph’s Parish in New Kensington and St. James Parish in New Alexandria.
He had been serving as pastor at St. James when he was elected diocesan administrator the day after the diocese’s last Bishop, Edward Malesic, was installed as the new bishop of the Cleveland Diocese. During yesterday’s service, Bishop Kulick said he was humbled to be called to serve, and thanked Malesic for his prior leadership.
He also asked the diocese and its members for their help as he continues to serve them.
Kulick becomes the sixth bishop in the history of the diocese.
