At their meeting Wednesday morning, the Indiana County Commissioners approved submitting the county’s application for funds through the Hospitality Industry Recovery Program.
That program was part of Act 1 of 2021, which was signed into law last Friday by Governor Tom Wolf and is meant to help businesses in the hospitality industry with financial assistance. Byron Stauffer of the county’s Office of Planning and Development said that Indiana County’s cut of those funds are estimated to be $952,241, and will be distributed through County Economic Development organizations or Community Development Financial Institutions. Stauffer added that the timeline for distribution will be quick.
Grants to businesses will range from $5000 to $50,000.
In other business, the commissioners approved a tax anticipation note of $2,318,496 at a rate of .95% from First Commonwealth Bank. That note will be repaid as tax money comes into the county.
Finally, the commissioners approved a resolution marking February as Black History Month in Indiana County.
