The Pittsburgh Penguins today named 56-year old Ron Hextall as their new general manager and Brian Burke as the president of hockey operations.
The announcement was made by co-owners Mario Lemieux and Ron Burkle.
Hextall was an elite NHL goaltender in his playing days and has been in NHL management for more than twenty years. The 65-year old Burke is a Harvard Law School graduate, and has spent 31-years as an NHL executive and won the Stanley Cup as general manager of the Anaheim Ducks in 2006-2007.
Hextall replaces Patrik Allvin, who became interim GM of the Pens when Jim Rutherford resigned on January 27th. Allvin will resume his role as assistant general manager under Hextall and Burke.
